In USAG there is compulsory gymnastics and optional gymnastics. Compulsory gymnastics is levels one through six in Colorado. In compulsory every gymnast does the same routines on each event. The floor music is also the same for every gymnast. Optional gymnastics is levels seven through ten as well as elite. In optional gymnastics every gymnast makes their own routine following certain standards. The gymnast gets to chose what music they want, but it must be a certain time and must not have words. Both kinds of gymnastics are fun. Optional is definitely more fun to watch, but compulsory is easier to learn.

In the United States there are two different kinds of gymnastics. there is USAG, which is the most common, and in Colorado there is Eagles. You can not get to the Olympics through Eagles Gymnastics but, Eagles Gymnastics is defiantly the more fun out of the two. The judging is a lot less harsh and the competition is much more friendly. USAG stands for United States of America Gymnastics. To go to the Olympics for gymnastics you must go through USAG. USAG is a very serious road in gymnastics. USAG contains levels one through ten as well as elite gymnasts. The judges in USAG are much more particular making it so that the competitors must be very precise. Both paths of gymnastics can be very fulfilling depending on where the gymnast wishes to go.
